The Curtis Cup is an amateur competition played between eight-player teams from Great Britain and Ireland who go up against the United States of America.

The competition plays out as six foursome matches which are played with alternate shots, six four-ball matches and finally on the last day every player will be involved when all eight single matches are played.

The GB and Ireland team are picked by the Ladies’ Golf Union where as the United States is selected by International Team Selection, which is run by the USGA.

Tom Hough, Chairman of the ITS Committee and in his third year on the USGA stated, “The opportunity to select the members of this team was one we undertook with great care. “We are confident that, while these players will be fierce competitors, they will also embody the tradition of friendship set forth by Margaret and Harriot Curtis in 1932.”

Every single USA player is ranked within the top 30 of the Amateur rankings with four of them being ranked in the top 10.

Robin Burke who was part of the victorious USA Curtis Cup Team in 1998 will captain the USA team and was very excited about the upcoming tournament later this year.

"It's exciting to have the team announced,” stated Burke. “I'm looking forward to bringing the players together for practice and creating positive energy for the Match in June.

This is a remarkable group of players – all very talented, all proud to represent the United States. I'm not sure Ireland is ready for us, but we will be ready for Ireland!”

The USA have dominated the competition with an overall 28 wins and just three losses, but the last time the USA team lost was back in 2012 which was the last time the match was played in Great Britain. This ended a seven match loosing streak for the GB and Ireland team dating back to 1996.
