66 Pro Tour second event won by Thomas Coulson
East Sussex National hosted the second event on the 66 Pro Tour which was a great success
The second event on the new 66 Pro Tour took place at East Sussex National on the 17th of August and was widely declared a resounding success: a field of 60 professional golfers represented a sharp increase in the size of the field from the launch event at Berkhampstead.
Thomas Coulson had a professional debut to remember as heclaimed victory in a play-off after he was joined at the top of the leaderboard by Sean Whiffin, who also fired an excellent two-under-par round of 70.
Steve Cowle and Lawrence Dodd finish joint third, after both fired 71s on what was a very competitive day of golf. The new tour – the brainchild of former Challenge Tour player and ex-pro Paul Gilbert really seems to be going from strength to strength. As he said: “We’re delighted the tour is proving to be popular and each event is growing bigger than the last. Our aim is to provide both quality and fairness, and we do this through choosing top venues and paying out most of the entry fees in prize money.”
With just two events left before the grand finale, players will need to raise their game if they are to qualify for the final which has greater levels of prize money on offer. Their next chance is at Old Thorn’s in Hampshire on the 1st of September and another very competitive day of golf is expected.
