Norman applauds European Tour Physio Unit
Greg Norman has given his support to the European Tour Physiotherapy Unit and its quest to help players prepare for the demands of the modern game
The Australian, whose tied third place in taxing conditions at The Open Championship showed he is still in fine physical condition at 53, took a look around the facility at Royal Troon Golf Club alongside European Tour Chief Executive George O Grady, where the mobile unit is assisting players prepare for The Senior Open Championship presented by MasterCard.
The Physiotherapy Unit was rebranded earlier this year as part of the wide ranging partnership between The European Tour and Leisurecorp, the company developing Dubai s leading residential golf community at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
Leisurecorp are partners of The European Tour in The Race to Dubai and The Dubai World Championship, which will be played on The Earth Course which Norman designed and the Great White Shark feels the state-of-the-art unit will make a huge difference to the players in the exciting new era for the game.
He said: I think to see the number of players in there this week just shows that golf is a sport that is tough on your body. Everybody thinks that it s not just because it s not cardiovascular but you do take a lot of wear and tear on your body and it s important that they have the capability to be looked after and be prepared for the next day.
Since the unit s inception the players have really applauded the fact that it is there. For any sport this is a fantastic thing to have. I guarantee you that 60 years ago the players wish they had this the ability to have someone to work on them. It s been a huge plus for the game of golf having this at tournaments.
The Unit s new livery set on a backdrop of the striking green, red and black colours of the United Arab Emirates features the slogan The Race to Dubai is Coming! along with a visual representation of the iconic images from the many cities around the globe where The European Tour will visit on its way to the season-ending Dubai World Championship.
As well as sporting a new appearance, The European Tour Physiotherapy Unit also features an enhanced team of personnel, increased tournament working hours and a wide range of improved services and equipment.
