Phil Mickelson to play in US Open at Bethpage

Phil Mickelson has confirmed that he will be playing in this month’s US Open at Bethpage despite his wife Amy’s ongoing fight with breast cancer.
Mickelson has missed the last two PGA Tour events as he announced in May that he would be taking a break from golf to be by his wife’s side.
But the 38-year-old, who is a three-time Major winner, will line up at Bethpage as it is understood his wife’s treatment fits in with the timing of the season’s second Major.
"We have a wonderful team of doctors helping us and it is believed that we caught this early,” Mickelson recently told his personal website.
"We are anxiously waiting for a number of test results that will help guide us in the best possible direction."
The Mickelsons married in 1996 and have three children. The world number two has three Majors to his name including two Green Jackets and the USPGA.
Last week Mickelson added on his website his thanks for the support they'd received, stating: "It is hard to describe how much the outpouring of support has meant to us.”
