Golf WAGS: Adam Scott and Ana Ivanovic
The latest blog from Robin Barwick at The Open Championship at Turnberry about Adam Scott and his tennis-playing WAG Ana Ivanovic
In comparing the leading Open Championship WAGs of 2008 and 2009 a real symmetry emerges. Last year at Birkdale the most photographed member of the ‘wives and girlfriends’ union was Chris Evert, who had, at the time, only recently married Greg Norman.
This morning at Turnberry I can confirm two sightings of tennis star Ana Ivanovic, the new girlfriend of Adam Scott. The 21-year-old Serbian with model looks was enjoying corporate hospitality alongside the 18th fairway while Scott prepared for his first round, on his 29th birthday.
So in 2008 it was the tennis star wife of an Australian golfer who drew the cameras’ focus to the outside of the ropes, and this year the mantle has been taken on by, well, a new generation tennis star attached to a new generation Australian golfer.
The couple have become very public in recent weeks, as Scott sat in Ivanovic’s box at Wimbledon, before the tennis player joined Scott at Loch Lomond last week for the Scottish Open, and then on to Turnberry this week.
Ivanovic is not the only world-class tennis player to find Scott attractive, as her Russian rival Maria Sharapova listed Scott among her top-10 fantasy mixed doubles partners a couple years ago. Scott was ranked sixth on this most crucial of sports rankings: he was placed above Hollywood heartthrob Orlando Bloom (10th), which is a good start, yet behind Russian president Vladimir Putin (3rd). While Sharapova reckoned “no-one will mess with us” if she teamed up with Putin, she did single out Scott for “a night match please”.
