Woods and Mickelson miss cut going into Open

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will head to Royal Lytham & St Annes on the back of missed cuts at The Greenbrier Classic.

It is the first time in 197 mutual tournaments played as professionals that they have both bowed out after two rounds.

Woods, who won his third event of the season at Congressional a week earlier, missed his second of 2012 and left the Old White course complaining of the altitude.

"I had my distance control dialled in last week and this week I was hitting the ball so far," Woods said.

Luckily for Woods, the altitude won't be such a problem at Royal Lytham in a fortnight's time.

For Mickelson however, the missed cut was a continuation of one of the poorest seasons in his 20-year career.

His mental lapses have plagued him this season and both his rounds of 71 fitted in with the 79-76-71-71-78 he had scored coming in to the tournament.

"I really have been (off)," Mickelson said.

"I don't know what to say about that. It hasn't been great.

"The parts don't feel that far off, but I haven't been putting them together."
