European Open Champion Ross Fisher and French Open Champion Pablo Larrazabal visited the Golf Foundation's Tri-Golf area and took on youngsters from Southport schools in Tri-Golf skills challenges.
The Golf Foundation, a charity committed to the social and sporting development of young people through golf, is present during the whole of Open Championship week. They are welcoming school groups and families to the centre in support of the England Golf Partnership, which is growing the game in England. Around 2,500 youngsters are expected to visit the facility that is provided by The R&A.
Ross Fisher gave youngsters a lesson in how to hit Tri-Golf shots. He said: I really enjoyed playing Tri-Golf today with the children and wish the Golf Foundation all the best for the whole week.
Both players were present courtesy of premium golf brand Titleist. After his Tri-Golf session, Pablo Larrazabal had a go at the England Golf Putting Challenge, which this year is sponsored by Titleist. Titleist is donating Scotty Cameron Studio Select and Red X putters, firm favourites with the world's best players, for prizes on each day of the week, while Titleist golf balls will be supplied for use in the challenge and for additional prizes, along with Titleist Tour caps. All a child has to do is attempt to hole three consecutive 12 ft putts. If successful, he/she will be entered into a daily draw to win a Scotty Cameron putter.
Mike Round, Chief Executive of the Golf Foundation, said: Ross and Pablo gave us some great support and the children absolutely loved the sessions. Hopefully they will now be inspired to continue their golf long into the future.
