Smith single putts his way to victory at Stoke Park
Chris Smith secured victory at Stoke Park to book his place in the Britain's Best Putter Grand Final at The Grove on October 13
Six handicapper Chris Smith showed nerves of steel to putt his way to victory in the Britain's Best Putter South-East regional final at Stoke Park Golf Club yesterday.
The Tylney Golf Club member showed star form on the smooth putting green at Stoke Park to defeat a large field and earn himself a place in the Britain's Best Putter Grand Final at The Grove.
"It feels fantastic to win," said Chris. "I went into the day with no expectations but I got to grips with the greens quickly and managed to keep the three putts off the score card. In the matchplay knock-out stages I adopted a more aggressive approach going for every putt and it paid off. I'm going to take the same strategy to The Grove."
Chris will be joined at The Grove by defeated finalist Mark McDonough from Enfield Golf Club, along with semi-finalists Stuart King from Hindhead Golf Club and Sam Firmager from Hever Castle Golf Club.
At just 14 years old, Sam is one of the youngest competitors to win a place in the Grand Final, and was delighted to hear the news that he would be collecting a brand new custom fit putter from Odyssey as his prize.
"It was great to have Odyssey's top fitting expert on hand to give me advice on what putter to use for my stroke," said Sam. "It's the same level of service as the Tour professionals receive."
The six regional finals have now all taken place and the 24 qualifiers will head to The Grove for the Britain's Best Putter Grand Final on October 13th 2012, where they'll be putting for a chance to win a fantastic holiday to Las Colinas Golf & Country Club in Spain along with the ultimate crown of Britain's Best Putter.
