Britain's Best Putter: Gleneagles glory for Wilson
Alan Wilson won the Britain's Best Putter Scottish regional final at Gleneagles to book his place at The Grove's Grand Final in October
Four-handicapper Alan Wilson demonstrated total putting perfection to win the Britain's Best Putter Scottish Regional Final at Gleneagles Golf Club yesterday.
The Craigie Hill Golf Club member came up against tough competition on the greens in a closely fought final match against 16-year-old ace putter Lee Greenhalgh from Duddington Golf Club. In the end, the BBP Scottish Regional Final crown came down to the very last putt.
"Putting has always been the best part of my game," said delighted champion Alan Wilson. "I've won our club's annual putting competition, the John Dutch trophy, several times but I've never experienced pressure like this. I'm honoured to be representing Scotland in the Britain's Best Putter Grand Final and I'm really looking forward to the event at The Grove."
As there are four places in the Grand Final up for grabs at each of the six Regional Finals Wilson will be joined by Scottish runner-up Lee Greenhalgh, as well as losing semi-finalists Keith Sampson from Piperdam Golf Club and John Nugent from Dunfermline Golf Club.
"The putter selection advice I was given from Odyssey's expert before the tournament proved to be invaluable," added John Nugent. "He explained how with my in-to-out stroke type I would suit a heel-toe balanced putter and helped me select one from the extensive Odyssey range. He even gave me a few pointers with my stroke, which I will be working on ahead of the Grand Final."
Each of the talented putters who have qualified from the Regional Finals will be rewarded with a brand new custom fit putter, courtesy of Britain's Best Putter title sponsors Odyssey, to putt with in the Grand Final on October 13th 2012 at The Grove Golf Club.
They'll be putting for a chance to win a golfing holiday to Spain's Las Colinas Golf & Country Club along with the ultimate title of Britain's Best Putter.
