Ping Women's Fitting: Jasmin Crossfield Handicap 22
Improving female golfer Jasmin Crossfield was hoping a club fitting could make her a more consistent player
Influencer Jasmin Crossfield (@golf_fitness_girl) is an improving golfer seeking new clubs to help her on her journey to better golf. With a relatively old half set of clubs in the bag, she is too inconsistent for her liking and arrived at Ping's European Fitting Centre hoping for a more predictable shot pattern, better gapping and more overall distance.
Fitter Analysis
For Jasmin’s height and wrist-to-floor measurement, her current G Le2 clubs are too short for her, as well as the lie angle being too flat. She hit them okay, but shots were inconsistent for distance and direction. Jasmin tried G Le3 and found the Ultra Lite shaft a definite no-no as it was too light and whippy, and although she felt the Lite shaft had a similar flex profile to her own clubs, they were not the model for her.
We moved on to the G430 HL iron with an Alta Quick 45 shaft, which has a soft regular flex, but it’s a bit stiffer and more in tune with what Jasmine likes. Shots showed increased consistency, a tighter dispersion and a ten-yard distance gain with a 7-iron.
When using the G430 HL driver with the same shaft as the iron, Jasmin launched the ball too high and with too much spin, so we changed to the G430 12 ̊ with a regular-flex shaft. Jasmine is a feel-conscious player and she wants to swing at the ball rather than having to ease back, so I’m confident that clubs on the firm side will help her in the longer term.
Jasmin's Feedback
I’m currently playing with my original half set of Ping G Le2 clubs, although I did have them reshafted earlier this year to make them slightly stiffer. I began by trying out G Le3, but I was unsure about them as I found them too lightweight and flexible.
After trying various shaft and clubhead combinations, the G430 HL irons felt most comfortable and best suited my swing. Fitted with a lightweight shaft a little stiffer than mine, I could swing more quickly without them feeling too flexible. I want to get better off the tee and found similar benefits with the G430 driver, plus I gained around eight to nine yards in distance. I’m sure having a full set and knowing the clubs are right for me will give me the tools I need to lower my scores.
I would definitely recommend custom-fitting to any female golfer. It’s a fantastic experience. Aside from understanding stats and learning about equipment technology, it gives you an insight into your game and, in particular, the look and feel of the different clubs available. Those that look good might not always feel great and perform the best, so you must go with what is most important to you.
