The new Nike Lunar Control 4 golf shoes have been designed with the help of Rory McIlroy, and introduce a host of new technologies to help cope and enhance the four-time major winner's powerful 120mph swing.
McIlroy’s ability to attack the ball with so much power, while maintaining control over his swing arc, requires strength and a strong base, and so Nike wanted to develop something that would provide the platform to let him swing within himself.
Talking about the final package they came up with, McIlroy told GM: “I have been looking forward to wearing this shoe for quite some time. It’s a design I’ve been involved with ever since my first year with Nike, and it gives me the confidence needed to maximise power in my swing with reliable control on the ground, especially off the tee.”
Like other Nike shoes, the Nike Lunar Control 4 golf shoes leverage innovations like Dynamic Nike Flywire technology that provides lateral support in the midfoot, and a robust external heel counter that helps lock the foot in place during the swing for better stability.
The distinctive upper - that now features an enlarged Swoosh design as seen on Nike's popular football boots - has been reengineered with a waterproof and lightweight microfibre that provides a soft, unrestricted feel, and unlike leather, doesn't stretch over time.
The tongue has also been redesigned (as you can see above) to wrap ergonomically around the ankle and provide a natural break when walking.
Some things haven't changed from the Nike Lunar Control 3 golf shoes, such as the high-performance outsole and Nike Lunarlon midsole that continue to offer great traction and cushioning.
The Nike Lunar Control 4 golf shoes will be available in three colourways for men (black/white, white/wolf grey, white/bright crimson) and three for women (black/white, white/wolf grey, pure platinum/bright crimson).
