Lumine to host Challenge Tour event

Lumine Mediterranea Beach & Golf Community will host the Challenge Tour this April when Europe's second-tier professional golf circuit returns to Spain.

The Challenge de Catalunya - won by American Brooks Koepka in 2012 - will take place on the Greg Norman-designed Lakes Course from April 24-27.

Lumine has played host to the second stage of European Tour Q-School for the past two years, and this year's Challenge Tour event carries a prize pool of €160,000.

"To be selected as the new home of the Challenge de Cataluyna is an absolute honour and recognition of all the great work that has been achieved at Lumine in the past few years," said Calle Carlsson, Lumine's General Manager.

"The announcement also sees us strengthen our relationship with The European Tour, following two successful editions of European Tour Q-School.

"We look forward to welcoming all the competitors in April."

Lumine is also home to the more traditional Hills Course - which weaves through pine and olive trees - and the nine-hole Ruins Course.

"Lumine Golf Club has demonstrated its credentials as a tournament host venue, and we are delighted with this choice for the 2014 Challenge de Catalunya," added Alain de Soultraut, Director, European Challenge Tour.

"We have learnt we can can rely on a well-presented golf course and an enthusiastic team who will do their utmost to ensure the event is as equally enjoyable as it is well organised."

Off course, Lumine is home to the Lumine Beach Club and the award-winning Lumine Restaurant, while the region's capital, Tarragona, boats some of the Costa Daurada's best restaurants.
