Crown Golf members donate to Golf Foundation
Crown Golf members donate £10,000 to the Golf Foundation to make the game more accessible to children from all backgrounds and circumstances
Crown Golf, the UK's largest owner and operator of golf clubs, has again demonstrated its support of junior golf development, with a £10,000 donation from its members to leading golf charity the Golf Foundation. The recent fund-raising activity brings the total Golf Foundation donations by Crown Golf members to over £85,000 in the last six years. In asking its members to contribute a small donation when renewing their annual membership, Crown Golf has been able to fund Golf Foundation initiatives which make the game more accessible to children from all backgrounds and circumstances. A proportion of the funds will be spent on the Foundation's HSBC Golf Roots initiatives in schools, clubs and the community, whilst the rest will be utilised in encouraging and coaching new young golfers at a number of Crown Golf venues which are HSBC Golf Roots Centres. "Both Crown Golf and its Members have a long history of supporting The Golf Foundation, and indeed the development of golf for all ages. It's one of the ways in which we help to grow the game, and I encourage all clubs to look at what they are doing for the Golf Foundation this year," said Stephen Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of Crown Golf. Mike Round, Chief Executive of the Golf Foundation at Pyrford Golf Club said: "We are thrilled to receive this funding from Crown Golf, which is an organisation that understands all the reasons why it is so important to encourage the next generation of players." HSBC Golf Roots creates stronger links between schools and golf clubs. The initiative also seeks to offer youngsters the ‘Skills for Life' benefits for which golf is known; attributes such as respect, honesty, perseverance and good sportsmanship.
