The new Cobra King Utility iron becomes the first adjustable driving iron on the market

Always a brand keen to push the boundaries of technology, Cobra has revealed the world's first adjustable driving iron, the Cobra King Utility iron.

The hollow body Cobra King Utility iron comes with a forgiving large sole and also features some details you'd expect to find in Cobra's metalwoods.

These include the MyFly8 hosel that allows you to seamlessly adjust the loft up and down to get the most from your launch characteristics and the conditions of day. For example, soft fairways might call for higher launches and longer carries, while windy conditions would favour a lower setting that is more penetrating.

So in this MyFly8 design, you can fine-tune the 3 iron at 21o up and down to; 18o, 18.5o, 18.5 o draw, 19.5o, 19.5o draw, 21.5 o, 21.5 o draw and 22 o.

The Cobra King Utility iron also delivers the feel and workability of an iron, combined with the forgiveness and slightly higher flight of a hybrid, which makes it very versatile.

A tungsten weight low and back aids a higher launch

The aforementioned hollow body combines with a 67g tungsten weight that is strategically positioned low and back in the head to deliver an optimal center of gravity position and high moment of inertia that increases off-centre forgiveness.

A new L-Cup face design also produces increased speed and a higher launch.

“This club is perfect for the golfer whose last iron stops at 4 and needs a 3, or golfers whose longest iron stops at 3 and needs 2-iron distance somewhere throughout the round.

"It allows players to perfectly gap their long iron game and offers three draw settings to fine tune trajectory,” said Tom Olsavsky, vice president of R&D at Cobra.

Cobra King Utility Iron specifications

The Cobra King Utility iron will cost £149 (steel) and £169 (graphite) and is available in right-hand only.

On sale May 1st, it comes equipped with a KBS C-Taper Lite steel shaft in stiff and x-stiff flexes, or an Aldila Rogue Black 85g graphite shaft in regular, stiff and x-stiff flexes.
