Everyone wants to know what equipment the best players in the world use and no-one draws as much interest as Rory McIlroy. The four-time Major winner signed with TaylorMade in 2017 and currently plays a full bag of TaylorMade equipment, including all 14 clubs and his ball.

His TaylorMade deal is said to be worth $10m per year for ten years, so we're going to see the World No. 2 with the brand's clubs in his hands for a few more years yet. McIlroy's 2024 season saw him win three times across the PGA Tour and DP World Tour as well as winning the DP World Tour Order Of Merit. Driver

What Driver Does Rory McIlroy Use?

McIlroy made a brief switch into the new TaylorMade Qi35 'Dot' head ahead of the first round at the Arnold Palmer Invitational but after just three rounds he moved back into his TaylorMade Qi10 'dot' driver.

The Northern Irishman kept this driver in play heading into the 2025 Players Championship where he emerged as the champion for the second time at this prestigious event. McIlroy plays a 9° 'dot' head, set at 8.25° and chooses to use a Fujikura Ventus Black 6X shaft with a playing length of 45 inches.

Fairway Woods

What Fairway Wood Does Rory McIlroy Use?

The TaylorMade Qi10 fairway woods were massively popular within the professional game last year and despite Rory once again deciding to take the leap and move into the Qi35 fairway wood heads in both his 15° 3-wood and 18° 5-wood ahead of Bay Hill, he also switched back to the Qi10 woods ahead of the final round. Both fairway woods are fitted with a Fujikura Ventus Black 8-X and 9-X shaft, respectively in his 3-wood and 5-wood. McIlroy's 5-wood often goes in and out of the bag depending on the golf course or conditions, typically being replaced with 2 or 3-irons and sometimes even a hybrid.

The standard Qi10 fairway wood McIlroy uses is one of three heads in the lineup and while at retail it is adjustable via the hosel, Rory's are glued in position - otherwise known as bonded. This is often done to save further weight in the hosel. These heads sit alongside the lower spinning 'Tour' head and more forgiving 'Max' model. Despite the Tour head offering larger amounts of customization through a sliding weight and adjustable hosel, the standard head offers a blend of power and forgiveness.

Irons

What Irons Does Rory McIlroy Use?

Rory has occasionally put a utility iron in the bag. For example to hit that majestic shot on the 18th at the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open. He has since put a prototype 3-iron in the bag which he used to great effect en route to winning at The Players Championship. As for the rest of his irons, the set remains unchanged, starting with a P760 4-iron and then moving into a the Rors Proto irons in 5-iron through to 9-iron.

The Rors Protos were part of the custom series of golf irons made for a number of prominent TaylorMade staff players, including Dustin Johnson and (at the time) Justin Rose. They all featured slightly altered profiles of the TaylorMade P730 iron, featuring either a unique grind or blade length profile.

Wedges

For 2024, Rory McIlroy has put a full set of the new TaylorMade Milled Grind 4 wedges in the bag in 46°, 50°, 54° and 60° lofts, a raw finish and fitted with Project X Rifle 6.5 shafts. The new technology on the face of these clubs makes them among the best golf wedges for spin control in wet conditions.

Depending on the course setup, McIlroy will often drop the 50° wedge in order to add another club at the top end of the bag.

Putter

What Putter Does Rory McIlroy Use?

Despite dabbling with a Scotty Cameron putter in 2023, Rory switched into a Spider Tour X putter at the start of 2024 and hasn't looked back. It has a short slant hosel and despite originally using one with a gunmetal PVD finish, he now uses one with a custom 'torched' finish. It also has a SuperStroke grip, a brand known for making some of the best putter grips on the market.

The Tour X model combines the performance of a blade with the benefits of a mallet design. With TSS weights positioned farther forward, it delivers increased face rotation while maintaining 5,000 MOI for enhanced stability compared to blade putters.

What Golf Ball Does Rory McIlroy Use?

Another big change for Rory McIlroy in 2025 is that he has made the switch to a TaylorMade TP5 golf ball. McIlroy had been using the TP5x golf ball since its release a at the beginning of 2024 but during some testing before his victory at Pebble Beach, he explained how he was enjoying the control and spin around the green that the TP5 offers.

The TaylorMade TP5 franchise has always been rated by us among the best premium golf balls and we'd go as far as to say they are among the best golf balls money can buy. He stamps his ball with #22 because he got married on the 22nd and says this about the number: “We looked up the meaning of numbers and the number 22 means powerful and high risk, high reward, and that's sort of everything I am on the golf course so I thought that was appropriate.”

What Shoes Does Rory McIlroy Wear?

McIlroy wears Nike apparel and the Nike Air Zoom Victory Tour 4 golf shoes. While we're still yet to put this model to the test, we loved the Nike Air Zoom Victory Tour 3 golf shoes. Rory was first spotted wearing the Nike Air Zoom Victory Tour 4 shoe at the start of 2025 and if they're anything like the previous model we think they will be seen as some of the best Nike golf shoes. He's expected to wear a variety of models, ranging from special editions, to the more traditional colors throughout the season.

What grips does Rory McIlroy use?

In his clubs apart from the putter, Rory McIlroy uses Golf Pride grips. His model of choice is the MCC Plus4, a multi-compound grip made up of rubber and cord. He has it in the black and white colorway.
