Golf Betting Blog: The storm brewed alright
The weather played a massive part in Portugal this week. Alexander Levy (70/1 pre-tournament) didn't hit a ball all weekend after the heavy rains cut the event down to just 36 holes.
We had plumped for Nicolas Colsaerts at 33/1 after showing glimpses in recent weeks and how close he was for a record breaking 59 on Thursday. He played some sublime golf, but there is no denying his second round was heavily impacted by the weather.
Both players fluctuated in the market, with Levy still available at 7/1 when he joined Colsaerts for a tie for the lead. We saw thousands being put on the Frenchman during his back 9 and they would have only had to watch him hit a few shots! Madness.
The most interesting story for us was 21-year old Spaniard Adrian Otaegui. 90/1 pre-tournament, he was T2 after round one, but had no time for a break before having to start his second round. The poor lad dropped out the places by a couple of shots; frustrating if you backed him.
Across the pond, clear winner Sang-Moon Bae started the Frys.com Open at a massive 150/1. The PGA Tour season opener didn't have the strongest field, which showed in the market - Martin Laird at 30s is a horrific thought. To be fair to Laird though, a T3 finish proved us wrong and his value right.

Bae was backed heavily after an opening 66, shifting between single figures and high teens. He didn't play particularly well on Sunday, so the 7/1 high we saw was a solid in-play bet.
As for this week, we have 3 tournaments to throw our pennies at. In Europe, the London Golf Club hosts the Volvo World Matchplay, with Patrick 'sssshhhh' Reed coming over for the first time, alongside the aptly named Hong Kong Golf Club in Hong Kong hosting the Hong Kong Open and we're in Vegas for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open on the PGA Tour.
