A weekend full of surprises, thrilling for spectators and agony for punters, Down The 18th take a look back in this golf betting blog
Golf Betting Blog: Where did that come from?
What a bizarre final day both sides of the Atlantic that was. It certainly thrilled for spectators, but for the majority of punters? Well, we'll go with torture.
We were treated to a combined total of +12 for our four remaining bets on Sunday and all that after going in with 250/1 shot Lucas Glover one behind.
Admittedly the weather was hilariously horrendous, but still, Glover shot the worst round of the top 50 and lost the ability to putt from 5ft.
Whilst our lads were falling fast, there were some incredible charges up the leaderboard from literally nowhere.
The Golf Monthly team made some returns with their outsider Scott Stallings (100/1) and Charles Howell III (120/1) backers would have been on edge after he watching him soar up 16 places into a tie for 5th.

But obviously the biggest heart-in-mouth moment was for all the punters on eventual winner Jason Day at 16/1. We simply loved his courageous nature in attacking the pins, even in those conditions, but it nearly cost him dear on the 18th.
Watching his ball hop over the green after chipping from the rough as it flew towards the water, before stopping just before the yellow line. And it was on a downslope.
That's just barmy. But he scrambled to save his par and went on to win the four-man playoff against J.B Holmes (225/1), Harris English (66/1) and Stallings.
We saw similar craziness over in Europe as well because the four who went into Sunday leading, all shot over par and dropped out of contention. Bernd Wiesberger at 16/1 was leading, Alejandro Canizares (66/1), Paul Waring (150/1) and favourite Lee Westwood (9/1) just behind. And all of them fell as Anirban Lahiri (50/1) sneaked through, following on from an impressive 62 on the Saturday.
Both us and Golf Monthly had Alvaro Quiros at 60s flying the solo flag on the final day, but he shot a cheeky +4...
Surely it's time for our luck to turn around and hopefully we will get back onto the winners enclosure this week.
Our £10 battle with Golf Monthly rolls into its 4th week with them still holding a comfortable lead but as we all know in the game of golf – anything can happen.
