Garcia returns
Not many people are talking about Sergio Garcia's comeback at the Castello Masters this week, but it marks the start of an important few months for the Spaniard who has dropped to 68th in the World Rankings
Sergio Garcia returns to action this week after taking a two-month break from the game and although he appeared relaxed enough talking to the media prior to the Castello Masters, he must be feeling anxious.
Watching Sergio race around Celtic Manor at the Ryder Cup, on vice-captain duty, was strange and also a little sad. His enthusiasm for the team cause was there for all to see but as he darted in and out of the galleries, you could see this look on many a spectator's face, an expression that said, "He should be playing".
That he wasn't notching up points for Europe at Celtic Manor is obviously down to a lack of decent form but, more alarmingly, his on-course attitude at times this season has been hard to watch, especially the 'bunker tantrum' he threw at the USPGA.
There are fewer greater entertainers in the game and we can only hope Sergio finds his best form again soon. If he doesn't - and this is the real worry - there's a danger that things could get worse before they get better. With the likes of Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy and Edoardo Molinari starring for Europe in the Ryder Cup - the former two claiming Major titles in 2010 as well - European golf has never been so strong.
At 36th in the Race to Dubai you could say things aren't all that bad. Consider the fact Sergio is ranked 68th in the world and that reveals the true extent of his loss of form. Let's hope come Thursday Sergio makes a positive return to action.
