Jason Day's win at The Barclays and Rory McIlroy's return to competitive action has set up a mouth-watering Deutsche Bank Championship.

The event starts on Friday and will give Day and Jordan Spieth the chance to take top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings.

McIlroy overtook Spieth after The Barclays, despite not playing, and will be determined to see off another new challenger in Day, fresh from USPGA Championship success.

The European Tour heads to Russia this week, where David Horsey will try and defend his title. The Englishman won the Made in Denmark tournament two weeks ago and has a chance to start impressing Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke, with Ryder Cup qualification set to get underway.

GM tips for each category this week

USA 1: Dustin Johnson - The South Carolina native has tended to turn on the style at the big tournaments this year. With the exception of the Open, he's not finished worse than T7 at a major this year. He played well at The Barclays, too. Expect him to be in contention again.

USA 2: Bubba Watson - A run of three top 3 finishes in his last four tournaments means Watson is another red-hot favourite as the FedEx Cup play-offs head to TPC Boston.

Great Britain: Justin Rose - Mr. Consitency will be looking to better his T16 finish at the weekend. Before The Barclays, his T6 finish at the Open was his worst result in four tournaments. Some form, eh?

Ireland: Rory McIlroy - When you look past the inevitable talk of lack of competitive action over the last few weeks, it's still the world no. 1 we're dealing with here. A T5 finish in this tournament last year could easily be bettered.

Scandinavia: Henrik Stenson - The Swede won at TPC Boston in 2013 and arrives in Massachusetts on the back of a second place finish. Another strong week looks like being on the cards.

Rest of Europe: Alex Cejka - If winning a five-man play-off doesn't prepare you for pressure situations nothing will. That's how Cejka won the Puerto Rico Open earlier this year and he'll need a similarly strong result to make it to the BMW Championship.

Africa: Louis Oosthuizen - The South African will need to rediscover the form that saw him finish T2 at the US Open and miss out on his second Open title in a play-off. If it's his day, he could be unplayable.

Asia: Bae Sang-Moon - Ignoring the form book, Bae finished T6 at The Barclays, shooting an impressive third round 63. Military service awaits, but after his performance last week, he could yet bow out in style.

Australasia: Jason Day - USPGA Championship? Tick. The Barclays? Tick. What next for the latest Australian to win a major? You'd imagine at least another top 10 finish this week, particularly with the added incentive of becoming world no. 1.

South America: Camilo Villegas - The Colombian started well last Thursday with a round of 65, but drifted off into the 70s over the weekend. If he can maintain his first round level of performance this week, he's likely to be South America's highest scorer.
