David Horsey, Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose have all had fine seasons and are in the field for the event at the Hong Kong GC.
While Patrick Reed will be the second highest-ranked American competing behind Dustin Johnson, Rikard Karlberg will be looking for his second win on Tour this season after beating Martin Kaymer in the Open D’Italia play-off.

GM picks for each category
USA 1: Dustin Johnson – With 11 top 10s in the last year for Johnson, you’d be brave not to pick him. Admittedly he doesn’t play much on the European Tour, but a player of his ability should be capable of slipping into a good rhythm in Hong Kong.
USA2: Patrick Reed – His last result on European soil was T16 at the Omega European Masters. The Texan was on the winning Presidents Cup team and also finished T4 at last month’s Deutsche Bank Championship. Confidence will be flowing through him.
Great Britain: Justin Rose – The Englishman was one of the most consistent players for a period on the PGA Tour last season, registering solid back-to-back top 10 results. He finished T2 at the Tour Championship in his most recent outing.
Ireland: Graeme McDowell – A T19 finish at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and T30 at the British Masters are two of the Northern Irishman’s better results this year. He started the year T9 at the Omega Dubia Desert Classic. If he’s near his best he could better that this week.
Scandinavia: Rikard Karlberg – The Swede won the Open D’Italia in a play-off against Martin Kaymer. He followed it with a T5 finish at the Porsche European Open, so recent form suggests he could be a serious contender.
Rest of Europe: Miguel Angel Jimenez – Despite being one of the oldest players in the field, Jimenez is still one of the classiest around. This year he’s had two T2s, with his best result of late coming at the Open D’Italia where he finished T11.
Asia: Anirban Lahiri – The Indian just edges out Thongchai Jaidee as our pick due to the number of impressive performances this year. Although Jaidee won the recent European Open, Lahiri has two victories this year and will still be feeling in good form after his T5 at the USPGA Championship.
Africa: Garth Mulroy – He enjoyed a T9 finish at the Portugal Masters, so arrives in Hong Kong in good form. Now might be a good time to back him.
Australasia: Marcus Fraser – Another player who has enjoyed recent success. His T5 performance at the British Masters is his best result since he finished T3 at the Hero Indian Open earlier this year.
South America: Ricardo Gonzalez – The highest points-scorer for South America last week, Gonzalez could be the man to back again. The experienced Argentine’s best result this year was T22 at the Open de Espana.
