No 87 - Woburn - Marquess
Woburn Marquess is a fairer test than Woburn’s two older courses, The Duke’s and The Duchess. The picturesque tree-lined course is cleverly designed for the modern game
87 WOBURN – Marquess
Architect: Hay, Alliss, Clark, McMurray 2006 position: 98 Stats: 6,744 yds; par 72; SSS 73 GF: £95-£165 T: 01908 370756 W: golf.discoverwoburn.co.uk
The most recent addition to Woburn’s trio of courses, the Marquess is credited to a number of designers including Ross McMurray, Peter Alliss, Clive Clark and Woburn stalwart, Alex Hay.
Woburn’s Marquess as a whole is easy to recall (always a good sign) and the setting and the internal scenery are wonderful.
The quartet of par 5s are the stand-out holes here, especially the 7th with its two options from the tee. The par 3s also merit praise, in particular the long downhill 14th.
The Marquess is a fairer test than Woburn’s two older courses, The Duke’s and The Duchess. SP
+ A picturesque tree-lined course; cleverly designed for the modern game - Expensive; can be a bit of a slog especially if wet underfoot in winter
