Architect: Braid 2006 position: 42 Stats: 6,703 yds; par 72; SSS 73 GF: £45-£100 T: 01704 578000 W: sandagolfclub.co.uk A one-time Ryder Cup venue, Southport & Ainsdale – or S&A as it is known by the locals – is a very fine links in excellent condition that twists and turns on itself.
The opening ten holes are very enjoyable – every one a belter – and work on holes 11-14 has added some interest to less dramatic land. The 12th in particular has vastly improved.
Heather and gorse are very much a feature, complemented by clumps of mature trees that add definition and character. The native fescue grasses of the dunes help give this course a delightful and natural feel. SP
+ Several excellent holes; playing surfaces in very good condition - Could benefit from some bunkering work, both visually and strategically
