Western Gailes really tests your shot-making ability on a scenic piece of coastline. Coupled with the pleasant clubhouse, you're sure to have a memorable visit
46 WESTERN GAILES
Architect: Park/Park Jr 2006 position: 32 Stats: 6,640 yds; par 71; SSS 74 GF: £60-£165 T: 01294 311649 W: westerngailes.com
Frequent host of Final Qualifying for the Open, the course occupies a narrow strip of land between railway and beach on an excellent stretch of golfing coast.
The par-5 6th winds along over a saddleback entrance to a green tucked away wonderfully in the low dunes by the shore. The 7th and the 17th are also particularly strong.
Depending on the wind direction, the stretch of holes along the water from 5 to 12 will be either serene or dramatic, but always inspirational.
The clubhouse offers a beautiful outlook over the 18th and the rest of the course. SP
+ Good test of shot-making; very pleasant clubhouse - Quite expensive for a non-Open rota course
