This eight-time Open venue is a stern test demanding solid golf on every shot, especially on the back nine, which has struck fear into the hearts of the world’s best over the years.
The first six holes are quite similar and a chance to score if wind conditions are favourable; the middle six are a thrill and ask different questions of your game; and the final six are a severe test of ball-striking and grit, especially into the wind.
The 8th, the legendary Postage Stamp, is an example of just how good a short par 3 can be, with its thin strip of green the only safe haven for your ball. SP
+ A serious and demanding test of golf; superb condition - Takes a few holes to get going; visitor access restricted to six months
