10 ROYAL LYTHAM & ST ANNES
Architect: Lowe 2006 position: 9 Stats: 6,630 yards; par 71; SSS 74 GF: £99-£200 T: 01253 724206 W: royallytham.org
Slightly anomalous in that it is set in the suburbs a mile inland, it is nonetheless a true links.
The course is relatively flat and reasonably open, but very heavily bunkered.
From the opening par 3 to the magnificent closing hole, it is simply a great test of straight, accurate driving and good club selection.
Royal Lytham is one of those courses where the whole is significantly greater than the sum of the individual parts (or holes).
It was the consistent challenge, character and flow of the course, particularly the back nine, which made the biggest impression for me on my visit. SP
