92 The Island
Architect: F Hawtree Stats: 6,312 yds, par 71, SSS 73 GF: €65-€115 Visitor information: Various slots and from 14.00 on weekends W: theislandgolfclub.com 2008 Ranking: 94 (Up 2)
Unusually, this ruggedly natural links opens with eight straight par 4s. But if this sounds mildly alarming from a score perspective, you won't be disappointed as each runs through its own valley between towering dunes, with a character entirely of its own.
The 13th is a classic one-shotter and the 14th is said to have one of the narrowest fairways in the world.
Panellists' comments: "Some jaw-dropping holes, most notably the 13th"; "Very natural links with a handful of really excellent holes"
