David McLay Kidd's layout at Machrihanish Dunes in the south-west corner of the Mull of Kintyre styles itself as a totally natural links experience that aims to take golfers back to the roots of the game. A rugged and natural layout set among the dunes, every tee and green position is dictated by the lie of the land. It's a wild and exciting track maintained using an environmentally sensitive approach. The course sits across 259 acres of land but, amazingly, only seven acres were disturbed during construction.
Panellists' comments: "This will become a ‘must play' for all golf fans"; "Markets itself as the way golf should be - and it is."
