Gullane No.1, on the golf-rich East Lothian coast, is the most highly regarded of the club's three courses but you get little idea of what lies ahead from the 1st and 2nd by the main A198 road. The latter climbs up along a kind of valley in the dunes, and from the 3rd tee the views out to the Firth of Forth from Gullane Hill are exhilarating, even more so from the highest point on the 7th tee. The links boasts an excellent variety of holes, and if the par-3 13th is into the wind, you'll have your work cut out all the way home.
Panellists' comments: "Unusual links experience as the course negotiates Gullane Hill"; "Magical views across the Firth of Forth"
