Western Gailes lies on a slender links strip, never more than two holes wide, between railway and beach near Irvine. Several greens close to the sea nestle in natural shallow amphitheatres in the dunes, while meandering burns add to the test, particularly on the 8th, 10th, 13th and 16th where they cross in front of the greens.
Panellists' comments: "A solid, rhythmic loop that ticks all the boxes"; "Great views of the hills of Arran from the course and clubhouse"
