35 Wentworth West
Architect: Colt Stats: 6,989 yds, par 73, SSS 75 GF: £195-£360 Visitor information: Visitors welcome Mondays to Thursdays W: wentworthclub.com 2008 Ranking: 35 (No Move) Improvements since 2008 Rankings: Course: Ernie Els' major redesign Clubhouse: None
Ernie Els' revamp of this Colt classic has drawn mixed reviews, but we feel the extensive remodelling of green complexes and bunkers has brought together the piecemeal changes of the last decade. The West is undoubtedly now a much sterner test and would have risen well into the top thirty were it not for the eye-watering green fee.
Panellists' comments: "A trip to Wentworth is like entering another world"; "Iconic clubhouse and a great halfway hut"
