When is Black Friday?

Black Friday is always the final the Friday after Thanksgiving - the final Thursday of November. As the United States digests their turkey, golf brands are working hard to entice customers to their sales the following day as Christmas Shopping hits high gear. Cyber Monday is the following Monday, providing more awesome deals for those who can't make it to the store in person. It's the perfect time to relieve the stress of last minute panic buying, instead allowing customers the chance to purchase gifts for Christmas with plenty of time to spare.

Why should I buy a GPS golf watch on Black Friday?

One of the main benefits of a good GPS watch is the simplicity. They allow you to simply glance at your wrist to get a yardage rather than have to fiddle about with a clunky GPS device or laser rangefinder.

But it is not the only factor at play because the growth in wearable technology in golf has taken huge leaps of late. Brands like Garmin, Bushnell, Shot Scope, Sky Caddie and more, make golf watches to not only help you get the right yardage, but to also give more information on the course, track your shots, provide fitness features and be versatile enough to use both on and off the golf course.

Because of all this, golf watches don't come cheap. You can expect to pay anywhere from $60 to $500 dollars for a golf smart watch, depending on what kind of technology you're looking for. Golf equipment can be expensive, so when the opportunity arises to save a bit of cash, we should jump at it. Said saved money can then be reinvested in other parts of your setup!

Where should I buy a golf GPS watch?

In the US, some of the best golf retailers include PGA Tour Superstore, Rock Bottom Golf, Walmart and, of course, Amazon. In the UK, the best golf retailers include Scottsdale Golf, American Golf, Sports Direct and Amazon. Amazon can be tricky to navigate (check out our best Amazon Black Friday golf deals) but they're a fantastic retailer for golf watches, lasers and balls in particular.

How to choose a golf watch

So you have decided you want to buy a GPS watch. Obviously there are lots of good deals out there as we have shown above, but what are some of the things you need to consider when purchasing? Let's take a look.

Features

Now you need to think about what features are important to you. If you want to keep things simple, and just want standard GPS information like front, middle, back yardages, then a budget option will do the job.

However if you want more detail on distances, on the course itself, hazard information, or if you want a model with a larger screen, then you can spend a little more to get these things. Some also can help you record your score, track your shots, and many also have fitness features for off the golf course as well.

Golf course

If you tend to play a lot of different golf course as opposed to your home course over and over again, your lack of familiarity with your surroundings can sometimes prove challenging to a good score. A great way to get to know a course you're playing for the first time is one of the watches on this list that can provide detailed yardages and even hole flyovers so you aren't playing it blind.

Battery power

The best golf rangefinders run on powerful batteries that are easily replaced every six months to a year, while GPS devices normally need charging regularly via a USB, so consider if you have the discipline to keep it topped up ready for your next round. If you tend to play 36 holes in a day that will also need to be factored in to your choice as you will need something with a longer battery life.

Versatility

This is an important factor to consider. Do you want to be able to use the watch anywhere? If so many brands make models that can be used on and off the golf course because of the range of features, and overall styling.

Budget

Budget is important when buying any sort of golf equipment because typically there are a range of options across multiple price points. If you're simply looking for yardages to the green or on-course hazards, it could be worth you while to spend a little less and reinvest the money saved in other parts of your golf game. If you can't get enough information on the golf course, paying premium prices for a watch can be worth it - some of the options can feel like you have a tour caddy on your wrist!

Does Garmin do Black Friday?

Garmin is one of the biggest technology brands on the planet and, along with their excellent golf watches, they also offer lots of different products like sat navs and trackers. We usually see the official Garmin website do some kind of sale around Black Friday and we expect more of the same in 2024, and a lot of their products will be on offer at other retailers as well such as Amazon, PGA TOUR Superstore, Carl's Golfland and more.
