Best Golf Cart Bags 2025
Looking for a new cart bag? In this guide, we take you through the best models currently available on the market

Contrary to popular opinion, golf can be a pretty physically demanding sport. Sure, it's not like running a marathon, but a four-mile walk in hot temperatures while lugging a bag and full set of clubs on your back is pretty draining. So you need to find ways of preserving energy as much as possible. A pair of the most comfortable golf shoes helps, but the easiest way to relieve the strain on the body is to invest in a golf cart/trolley, which will help store your clubs and bag safely and securely whilst you tackle the fairways.
With the purchase of a trolley you will also need a cart bag to go with it, as a stand or pencil bag isn't ideally suited to sitting on a cart. Besides, with a cart bag you have tons more storage for useful things like extra drinks and food, waterproofs and maybe a spare pair of shoes. As well as being larger and offering more storage, cart bags are also designed to be more long-lasting than the best golf stand bags and they fit on the trolley more securely.
We tested over 30 golf bags last year, some of which have been deemed worthy of a place in this guide. There was plenty of the competition for the top pick too, but with a whopping five star review it was hard not to give it to Motocaddy's Protekta bag for a number of reasons, most notably the high quality build and waterproof material.
After testing a lot of different models, and we mean A LOT, we have collated the top performing models into this guide to help you decide which is the cart bag for you. Additionally, if you are after a bag that is more specific to your golf game, then why not also check out our guides on the best lightweight golf bags, the best waterproof golf bags and the best push carts.
The Quick List
The Protekta ticked every box for us during testing, offering unique protection for every club in the bag whilst keeping our valuables dry via the high quality waterproof material.
With 13 pockets to choose from, you can pack whatever you want to bring onto the golf course with the C-130 bag from Sun Mountain.
The Vessel Prime 2.0 Staff bag is absolutely outstanding. The materials used, clever design, and stunning aesthetic all go into making up one of the most luxurious golf bags imaginable.
A great looking and highly functional cart bag with the unique benefit of a silencer top that individually protects each club for easy access and without noise.
A highly functional cart bag, the Nero offers a premium finish and maintains the high-quality performance we have experienced with the brands golf carts.
The Dry Series is highly functional in terms of its storage options, it's exceptional in wet weather, and it has an incredibly lightweight design.

Very much a bag for the golfer who errs on the side of caution over what they take with them out on the course. There really is space for everything and it's waterproof too.
This cart bag is really impressive. Lightweight and easy to hook in and out of the car and we think it is extremely practical when it comes to pocket formation.

Our choice for top pick is the Motocaddy Protekta Cart Bag, the recipient of the lofty five star review when we tested it. This is a premium golf bag that keeps your clubs safe and secured whilst keeping your other valuables safe and dry thanks to the high quality waterproof material and zips which helped provide a lot of peace of mind during testing. While some cart bags can get be a little on the heavy side, this fantastic option weighs only 3.1kg, making it one of the best lightweight golf bags around.
One thing we really value in cart bags is storage - considering we're likely in a golf buggy or have one of the best push carts or best electric golf trolleys complimenting it, we look for plenty of storage space with our bag because we don't have to worry too much about the weight considering we aren't carrying said bag on our backs. We really enjoyed testing this bag and particularly loved the storage options as this bag boasts nine pockets in total, including two valuables pockets and two full-length side pockets. This means that there is ample room for the best golf waterproofs and even space for a couple of bottles of water in the bag's cooler pocket.
Motocaddy bags work best with the brand's own trolleys as they are customised to fit. We tested it out on the Motocaddy M7 GPS Electric Trolley and found the Easi-lock base worked perfectly to reduce the faff and strapping often needed to secure a bag to the bottom of a trolley. The 15-way top divider is unique and features nine irons slots to securely keep your irons safe from crashing against each other as you walk as well as reducing noise for the inevitable contact together. As someone who wants to keep their clubs in the best condition possible, I valued this during testing.

Sun Mountain C-130 cart bag on a cart

The C-130 from Sun Mountain has been the company's best seller for two decades and is one of the best-selling cart bags of all-time. While it has been developed specifically for golfers who ride when they play, it also fits perfectly on a push cart too.
I personally don't think there is such thing as 'too much' storage in a cart bag and seemingly neither do Sun Mountain. Their C-130 golf bag has been on of their best sellers for over two decades and it's easy to see why.
Boasting a 14-way divider with a specialized pocket for oversized putters, this is a bag that provides seemingly endless room for players clubs and other accessories. 13 pockets are on offer here, two of which are specifically designed for apparel and worked perfectly for me during testing to prepare for the elements in sunny (and rainy) England. It also has a ventilated cooler pocket to store your drinks, two velour-lined pockets for valuables (including one that is water-resistant) as well as a pocket with a magnetic closure that was incorporated specifically for rangefinders. Sun Mountain have thought of everything.
In testing we found the ease of use to be especially impressive. The C-130 possesses Sun Mountain’s Smart Strap system, which keeps the bag secure during use while also enabling players to access each pocket with ease. A matching waterproof hood is also included with each C-130 bag and there are 11 different colors for golfers to choose from, making this unquestionably one of the best Sun Mountain golf bags on the market.

Vessel have provided bags for many of the world's best players and have racked up numerous PGA Tour and major championship victories without many people even realizing it. We recently got to try the Vessel Prime 2.0 Staff bag Tiger Woods uses and we could not have been more impressed.
This is arguably the coolest golf bag we tested in 2024 and you'll look like a PGA Tour pro in your local Sunday handicap sweep with your clubs in this bag. The look is clean and not boastful, rather sleek but premium. The synthetic leather is soft and smooth to the touch and handling the bag gives you the same kind of feel as when you step into a high-end premium car. Pure luxury.
I battled the elements during of the days I was testing this golf bag and I noticed the waterproof zippers held up really well against the rain. The leather pockets also gave me the feeling of a premium golf bag as I battled the weather with my phone, wallet and other valuable safely and cosily stored in the valuables pockets which are lined with a beautifully soft antimicrobial material that not only feels great but keeps things hygienic.

Ogio All Elements Silencer Cart Bag

We love OGIO golf bags because the brand also creates innovative and bold designs that stand out, such as the blue floral print above. But performance is not just cosmetic, because the All Elements Silencer has a 14-way top to protect each club by locking them into place. This prevents movement and noise.
Another thing you'll almost always get from an OGIO golf bag is stable and solid performance. There are only six pockets included with this bag which is way down compared to others on this list but they're so deep they still provide ample storage room, particularly thanks to the large apparel pockets, valuables pocket and cooler pocket. It's also waterproof, which like the other excellent options on this lift, gave me peace of mind during testing as the rain began to fall.
The additional features that impressed most are the zip pullers for easy access, lock-down straps for a golf cart, and a smartly tucked-away shoulder strap. The former gave me reassurance during testing both on an electric trolley and the back of a buggy knowing it was both safe and secure, whilst the shoulder strap proved a handy feature in the course care park. As such we think it blends style with function nicely, and obviously with OGIO you get a brand synonymous with high-quality.

Stewart Golf has been making some of the best remote electric trolleys and best push carts for the best part of a decade now, and while the brand had dabbled before in some mid-market cart bag options, the new Nero represents the first premium cart bag offering from Stewart.
As Stewart bags are designed to work best with their trolleys, we tested the Nero bag on our Stewart Vertx Remote trolley to get the optimum experience. Immediately we were struck by the strong looks on offer here - the all black design is a cool one and compliments the trolley very well. The design is also durable and we didn't notice any marks or scratches even in poorer weather. The Nero is made from a tour-grade synthetic leather so it's soft to the touch, looks premium and wipes clean really easily too.
Nine pockets in total include a large insulated front pocket, two plush velour-lined valuables pockets and a magnetic front pocket which is ideal for a rangefinder. Having tested many of these cart bags over the years, I've found far too many neglect the cooler pocket - I'm happy to say this is not the case with this bag and my cold drinks stayed chilled and refreshing during multiple rounds of golf.

The black and navy Motocaddy Cart Series Bag mounted on a trolley on the golf course

The Motocaddy Dry Series received a revamp a while ago and now it is undoubtedly at the upper end of the product line-up. You get a stylish design that is fully waterproof and extremely user-friendly. This is one of the best cart bags we've tested and it ticks a lot of boxes. It weighs around six pounds - which is nothing at all when you consider it is fully waterproof - and also comes with a rain hood.
It's packed with features that golfers can take advantage of, including 14 full-length dividers for clubs which means no more of that horrible jamming that so often occurs with golf bags.
It has great storage capability too, including nine pockets for golf balls, additional layers and all manner of accessories a golfer would wish to carry.
Finally, there is a substantial food and beverage pocket that is insulated, while all the zips are heat sealed, meaning everything is as secure as can be. Motocaddy truly has thought about every little detail here.

With the 'Aqua' name, you'd rightly expect this bag to be fully waterproof - and indeed it is. The Aqua Sport 360 is one of the best waterproof golf bags and offers terrific all round performance.
With so much size and storage, some cart bags can become rather heavy and difficult to maneuver as a result. Big Max have addressed this concern with the Aqua Sport 360 bag which provides lightweight, easily maneuverable transportation of your clubs. As the name suggests, it's also waterproof. We took so much of a soaking during one of our testing rounds that I'd happily consider it one of the best waterproof golf bags thanks to the terrific all round performance.
On the right push cart or electric trolley, where the bag sits away from the support frame, some of these rear pockets are still accessible – certainly on the Big Max trolley we used in testing. I held two bottles of water and a number of snacks for my rounds of 18 holes which was pleasing whilst finding the double grab handle was very useful in preparing for my round and putting my clubs away after the round in the club car park.
There isn't just space for your water and snacks either - there is also an oversized putter well that fits larger grips which I availed of during testing and the 14-way divider is covered in soft, protective materials to prevent club crowding.

The MacGregor 15-Series Water Resistant Cart Bag in testing

While there are certainly more eye-catching cart bags on the market, the MacGregor 15-Series Water Resistant Cart Bag is certainly one of the most practical and best value options.
The best cart bags can often become expensive, so we always like to throw a 'best value' option in here for players who want quality performance without breaking the bank. Said value comes in the former of the 15-Series Water Resistant Cart Bag from MacGregor.
I found this to be a very lightweight and user friendly golf bag during testing thanks to two over-moulded handles on the top of the bag which make it easy to adjust around once in the cupboard or on the trolley. I was lucky not to test this during monsoon weather like some of the other bags on this list, but this is a showerproof bag rather than waterproof, so keep that in mind if you see heavy rain in the forecast. However, your valuable should still remain dry thanks to the water resistant zippers.
My favorite feature is the 15 full-length dividers - it provided me with easy access to my clubs without the problem of jamming clubs and them getting stuck as a result. These dividers are lined and cushioned as well, so any graphite shafts are well nurtured as you roll over on the bumpiest of fairways or paths. We especially liked the “putter pit,” which is rubberised and houses the putter brilliantly. With many putters having thicker grips these days, having a specialist compartment for them should be a staple for every bag, but that isn't always the case.

How we test golf bags
Our testing process for all golf gear, including golf bags, is both rigorous and comprehensive. As far as our methodology goes, if we say we have reviewed a product, you can take it as read that we have used it out on the golf course and put it through its paces in different conditions. We also ensure that we will use all of the features on the golf bag, so if the valuables pocket claims to be waterproof then we will pour water on it to find out.
We test golf bags out across a number of rounds of golf across different days and types of courses to ensure the fairest test possible. Particularly with waterproof options, we like to brave the weather and really test out of they can match their promise by keeping our equipment and valuables bone dry. Also, because we test so many products here at Golf Monthly, bags typically get tested a lot more considering we use the bags when testing other equipment like hardware, shoes, rangefinders and more.
We endeavor to use all the features on the bag. Whether than be a contact-free club divider, a magnetic valuables poach or a claim of a comfy shoulder strap, we make sure we test out all of these features to deliver a well-rounded, informative review and buying advice for our loyal readership.
It is important to stress that manufacturers cannot pay for a good review because we tell things how we see it. Our testing team are all golfers, at different ages and levels, and most are golf club members so play regularly enough to really put golf gear to the test. We pride ourself in our impartial buying advice because we believe we owe it to the reader to provide valuable tips and advice when it comes to buying golf equipment, especially when we consider prices are only on their way up!
How to choose a golf bag
Let's look into the several factors you need to think about when buying a golf bag.
Bag Type - The main question; what kind of bag do you want? Do you carry your bag or use a trolley or buggy? If you are reading this guide then chances are you want a cart model, but you should think about what you think is important to your golf. If you occasionally carry your bag, then a cart bag is not for you. A stand bag isn't perfect for use with a cart but a bigger problem is trying to walk the use while carrying a cart bag.
Stand bags are designed for those who want to carry their clubs around the golf course. As such comfort and weight are hugely important factors, as are waterproofing and strength.
The two negatives most associated with stand bags are they require more effort to use, and they usually don't offer as much storage as cart bags. However, that being said there are several stand bags on the market that can also be used on golf carts as well.
Cart bags are designed for golf carts and for those players who don't want to carry. As such they are designed to be easy to lift and move around, and offer stability too. Cart bags also tend to offer ample storage for accessories, apparel, valuables and all the other golf paraphernalia you might need during the round. Because of all of this, cart bags are bigger and bulkier, whereas stand bags offer more freedom.
Storage - Storage is important in golf these days because a good golf bag has to offer pockets for lots of different things as we mentioned above. Cart bags usually have larger pockets because they have more room and weight is less of an issue when they are on a cart. Stand bags are usually only big enough for the essentials.
We recommend thinking about how much gear you want to transport when playing because there are models which will house everything, and some that keep the game as simple as possible with only a few pockets.
Waterproofing - If you live or golf somewhere that gets a lot of rain then this is a no-brainer really. You simply must have a bag that offers protection from the rain. If you live somewhere with nice weather all year round then then this won't be as important and shower resistant bags will do the job.
Weight - Across all types of bag, weight is important. Stand bags obviously have to be lightweight because players will be carrying them on their backs and shoulders all day, whilst cart bags should also have a degree of lightness too so they are easy to maneuver on the golf course, and from the car to the cart itself. That being said most brands make lightweight designs because absolutely nobody wants to lug around a heavy bag.
Looks - How do you want your golf bag to look? Brands often try their best to create design aesthetics that stand out, or blend in on the golf course. Therefore take a look around and see what colors and designs some bags come in, and then choose accordingly. There is a design for everyone these days.
Budget - Our final factor to consider is of course price. Golf bags come at every price point so whatever you are after, there will be a bag for you whether i be a premium model, or one towards the value end of the spectrum.
FAQs
Why should I purchase a cart bag?
A cart bag is a fantastic way of storing all your important necessities like apparel, golf balls, tees and clubs. What's more, it provides more storage space than a stand bag and doesn't take up as much room as a Tour bag.
Is a golf stand bag better than a cart bag?
This depends what you want from a golf bag. If you want as much storage as possible and to save your body from carrying a golf bag then a cart bag is better, but if you enjoy carrying and want a lighter option with more freedom, then stand bags are the better option.
How many slots should a golf bag have?
This question is all about personal preference. Some individuals will go for a bag that has 14 dividers, whilst some will go for bags that have four or five. There are many different opinions surrounding the number of dividers, but it is all up to your preferences and comfort.
What kind of bag do pro golfers use?
Pro golfers tend to use Tour bags which are the largest models you can get. This is because professional golfers like to have all equipment necessary when out on the golf course. As such these bags have a lot of pockets to house balls, launch monitors, all the rain gear they might need, umbrellas and all the other accessories they might need.
