On the south eastern outskirts of London, a trip to West Kent Golf Club would be an ideal away day for any city player. The tough, tree-lined, parkland course is a significant challenge for golfers of all standards. The course features a total of 14 par fours placing an emphasis on straight driving and accurate iron play. A series of five par fours around 400 yards in the middle of the front nine represent the key to a good score. Pass through this stretch without finding the trees and you'll have a chance of posting an impressive total.
The par-5 12th plays 550 yards from the back tees twisting first right then left to a small green sheltered by tall conifers. Any player registering a high number at the twelfth can take comfort in an assortment of hot and cold sandwiches served in the hut behind the green. The final stretch features a difficult par three played to a raised, well bunkered green. The 163 yard16th requires an accurate mid iron shot to a fast undulating green.
The nearby village of Downe has a couple of excellent little pubs that?ll serve up some top nosh and a selection of local brews.
Best Hole: The par-3 8th is a beautiful little hole that plays between 150 and 200 yards - make sure you take enough club to carry the valley and make it to the green the other side.
Green fees: £30 per round, £40 per day
