West Derby GC
Described in one publication as "the Sunningdale of the North", well worth a visit
Merseyside is most famous for it?s links layouts, and rightly so. But don't be afraid to try a number of excellent inland courses in the area. One of which is West Derby on the outskirts of Liverpool.
The club has been in existence for over a century and the well-matured layout is classic parkland, with easy walking and an impressive array of greenery. Indeed it is these trees which provide much of the test at West Derby.
From the championship tees the course measures a touch shy of 6300 yards and although modern technology probably now denotes that as ?short?, it?s often wise to keep the driver in the bag and concentrate on keeping the ball in play off the tee or you will find it difficult to compile a good score.
Another of West Derby's many attributes is the quality of the greens and they combine with the other facets of the course to make West Derby, described in one publication as "the Sunningdale of the North", well worth a visit.
Best Hole: 14th, 132 yards par 3. The signature hole here with two new ponds recently installed with a waterfall running off the front of the green. Not somewhere to get your feet wet.
