Trevose Golf & Country Club
Sat across Constantine Bay from the better known, but much less welcoming, St Enedoc GC, Trevose is arguably Cornwall's top course.
Sat across Constantine Bay from the better known, but much less welcoming, St Enedoc GC, Trevose is arguably Cornwall's top course.
A true links that was laid out by Harry Colt - the same man responsible for some of the best courses in the world including Muirfield, Lytham St Anne's, Pine Valley, Wentworth and Sunningdale - the Championship course is unlike a lot of links layouts in that it features just one blind shot making it a very fair test of your game.
However what it certainly does share in common with other seaside courses is that the severity of the examination is usually determined by the strength of the wind. And, at Trevose it can really blow making low scoring nigh on impossible.
Aside from the wind whipping in off the Atlantic Ocean, golfers also have to negotiate a myriad of well positioned bunkers and a stream that meanders through much of the course. And, that's all before they get to the greens which are not only large but full of subtle borrows and breaks.
For those down in this part of the world for a few days Trevose also has a full length nine-hole course which was opened in 1993 by Peter Alliss (his son Gary was the pro here) and an excellent nine-hole short course where you can hone your iron play.
Best Hole: 4th par 5 450 yards. Shortish par five which runs past sand hills before arriving at a rolling green. Stunning.
Address: Constantine Bay, Padstow, Cornwall, PL28 8JB
