Trevor Immelman's Top Chip Tips
If you're looking to get your ball round in a respectable total you'll need to make some birdies. You'll also and probably more importantly need to save potentially dangerous situations. Here Trevor Immelman gives us his key to success around the greens. Get in there my son!
[PAGEBREAK]A CLASSIC MISTAKE
Chipping has been an area that I've struggled with probably because I was guilty of one of the most common faults that loads of amateurs suffer from. But a quick adjustment and a decent bit of practice and you should be able to stop weak greenside shots from ruining your score.
This is the mistake that I made and I see plenty of amateurs making - cutting across the ball. You end up striking the ball with the toe of the sand or lob wedge and the ball pops up into the air with absolutely no distance control. You'll not be able to judge the spin on the ball and you'll keep leaving yourself long putts for par.

THE CURE
The cure is a simple one but will take some dedicated practice. Just try to swing your arms back and through on the target line. Don't give it the Phil Mickelson flop shot, just swing back and through in a straight line.

THE RESULT
The flight of your ball will be consistent and the spin reaction to the greens will be the same every time. Simply shorten or lengthen the swing depending on how far you are looking to hit the ball. When you get used to what you are doing you can manipulate the flight of the ball to add a few different shots to your armory.

[PAGEBREAK]PRO TIP
Concentrate on the fundamentals: keep the ball directly under the middle of your chest. Place a little bit more weight on your left side. Then simply look at produce your solid swing path through to the target.
