Total Golf Handicaps

How it will work:

On joining the Total Golf Club, an official handicap is easy to secure and start using. The handicap can be updated every time a round is played, just let us know the score and the details of the course played by email or post. Send in the signed card in the post and then we will update the handicap online.

To secure a handicap:

To secure the initial handicap, just submit THREE cards signed by another player. We will then take the ?average? of these cards to establish your initial handicap. For example 21 , 17 and 23 over par will result in an initial handicap of 61 divided by 3 = 20.3. Therefore giving you a playing handicap of 20.

You can follow the progress of your handicap online as the history is recorded. A handicap certificate can be issued at any time confirming the current handicap.

How do handicaps change?

Total Golf will perform the following calculations:

1. Calculate a ?net differential? for each player. This is the difference between the player?s net score (score less current handicap) and their current handicap.

2. Use each player?s net differential to adjust their handicap according to the following formula:

Where the net differential is within Buffer Zone, no adjustment to handicap is made.

What is a ?Buffer Zone??

A player?s ?Buffer Zone? is a range of scores returned in competitions where the player?s handicap will not be changed. The buffer zone is different depending upon the player?s handicap category. A player returns a score within his Buffer Zone when his Nett Differential is within specified limits.
