Thorpeness GC
Thorpeness sits on a great spot of land just next to the seaside town of Aldeburgh
Laid out in the 1920s by the famous Scottish designer James Braid, Thorpeness sits on a great spot of land just next to the seaside town of Aldeburgh.
It's a cross between a links and a heathland with undulating fairways lined with a mixture of gorse heather and silver birches.
The course offers a fair test to all levels but is never too penal. So don't worry, you'll at least have a sporting chance of playing to your handicap.
As you walk up the 18th you'll get a fabulous view of "The House in the Clouds", a local folly that was built in 1932 as the Thorpeness water tower.
Originally disguised as a house to avoid it being an eyesore, when Thorpeness was linked to the mains water supply the tank inside was dismantled and the space turned into living space. Today you can rent out the whole gaff as holiday home.
Best Hole:17th 279 yards par 4. Very tempting short par 4 but a well defended green means crafting a birdie here is a tricky proposition.
Address: Thorpeness, Aldeburgh, Suffolk, IP16 4NH
