Portmarnock
Langer's Links
Although Bernhard Langer only designed the course less than a decade ago, it looks like it?s been there since the turn of the century. This course is in great condition, although it?s worth bearing in mind that these conditions are punishing. The rough reaches mid shin and when the wind blows the chances of hitting the fairway are greatly reduced. Which is a bit of problem when the course is 6,867 yards long.
If you are playing the course for the first time, it?s best to take a caddy. From the tee what looks a safe landing area may be a bunker, or a hillock which could propel your ball into the gorse. You definitely need your A game around here
The first hole is exposed, so take note of the wind direction or your ball could end up in the ancient graveyard on the right. The rest of the holes roll through the dunes, with the occasional glimpse of the sea and the Jameson (of whisky fame) mansion, now a hotel. So if you in need of a stiff drink ? this is the home of whisky.
Best Hole: The ninth over 17 yards from the back needs one more than you think. If you leave it short of the raised green you'll never make par.
Address: 15 minutes from Dublin International airport and 30 minutes from the capital.
Green fees: 85 euros residents, 120 euros non residents
Tel: 00 353 1 846 0611
