Course of the week - Scarborough North Cliff

Just two miles north of Scarborough on the road to Whitby, the course at North Cliff can be found. Despite its proximity to the sea it?s a parkland course in the main. With outlooks over the North York Moors, the layout moves elegantly through mature trees over gently undulating ground. The start and the last three holes are on the cliff tops.

Course lowdown: It?s important to get off to a steady start here. The first five play into the prevailing wind and most good rounds begin solidly rather than spectacularly. The other test comes at 10, 11 and 12 (?Amen Corner?), where it?s easy to lose your way in the trees. The 12th, the toughest is a testing dogleg through trees. Accuracy and distance are required. The 15th is the best par 3. 212 yards downhill, the green is well bunkered. The North Sea provides a breathtaking backdrop.

Stats: par 71, SSS 71, 6,425 yards

Green fees: £35 Mon-Thurs per round, £40 Mon-Thurs per day, £40 Fri-Sun per round, £45 Fri-Sun per day
