Pwllheli is the oldest club on the Llyn Penninsula. Founded in 1900 as a 9-hole course, it?s a game of two halves Brian. The original nine holes (which run alongside the dunes and sea) were designed by the legendary Tom Morris of Hoylake, and the course was then extended to 18 holes nine years later by the equally eminent James Braid. The then President of the Board of Trade and future Prime Minister, David Lloyd George, officially opened the new course on June 1 1909.
Somewhat unusually, Pwllheli does not have any par 5s but this doesn?t make the course any easier. Mature trees, thick gorse and a number of fiendishly placed ponds make this a good golfing workout. As is the norm with courses in the area the views are stunning, especially from the clubhouse which, trivia fans, is notable for being the closest located to the sea in the whole of the UK.
Best Hole: On the card the 291 yard 11th hole looks simple but with trouble just about everywhere you look it can hurt you, trust us.
