Celtic Manor Wentood Hills Course
A great course with some outstanding holes - the stretch from 13 through 16 is simply jaw-dropping
There are three championship golf courses at Celtic Manor including Wentwood Hills the venue for the Wales Open and the 2010 Ryder Cup. It?s a classic a Trent Jones design with inviting drives, huge bunkers and large undulating greens to contend with.
Somewhat disconcertingly Celtic Manor say the time suggested for a round should be no more than five and half hours. And with some fairly lengthy walks between greens and tees and savage rough in which to lose plenty of balls it?s easy to see how it could turn into a bit of a plod on a busy weekend.
Nevertheless it really is a great course with some outstanding holes - the stretch from 13 through 16 is simply jaw-dropping. For some post round nosh try some classic Welsh offering at Owens.
Best Hole: The 6th is a tough par 4, the second shot is a long iron over water - a clean hit is vital.
Green Fees: £81 per round
