Bull Bay GC
Value for money for all levels of golfers - though try and bring your 'A' game
On first inspection a visit to Bull Bay may seem like a trip off the beaten track but golfers who make the effort to get to this corner of Anglesey will find themselves well rewarded.
Opened in 1913 with an exhibition match between two of the golfing greats, J H Taylor and James Braid, Bull Bay Golf Club is found on the north coast of Anglesey and is known as the club that offers 'nature's gift to golfers'.
Playing with a backdrop of the Irish Sea, the Point Lynas Lighthouse and Snowdonia to the east, visitors are presented with views that are never less than spectacular.
On a clear day it's possible to see the Isle of Man and the Lake District. A nice perk if your game's not firing on all cylinders.
The course itself is heathland in style and spreads out over some very rugged terrain, sat as it is high on a headland. Its location means that you need to have a strong wind game to be in with any chance of carding a decent score, as the breeze here is rarely less than brisk.
Wind apart, the other major barriers to a good score are negotiating the frequent changes in elevation all over the course and finding the small, well-defended greens.
No fewer than eight of Bull Bay's greens are approached from fairways at a lower level, which calls for good judgment of yardage. Furthermore, the greens themselves are only 30 yards deep, with bunkers set very tight to the fringes.
