Birr

The Birr Necessities

Birr is a mature, challenging course, playable all year round owing to excellent drainage and the generally mild climate in an area at the very centre of Ireland.

The newly laid out 337 yards 10th hole is a difficult par 4 played to an elevated green cut out of woodland. Birr welcomes visitors though it?s advisable to book ahead, particularly at weekends. At 6357 yards the par 70 couse is a rewarding challenge well worth the greenfee.

The charming town of Birr has other claims to fame besides its golf course: the garden at Birr Castle, seat of the Earl of Rosse, is one of the best stocked in Ireland. The Castle is also home to the Rosse Telescope ? used in the 19th century to make the first accurate measurement of the heat of the moon.

Best HoleThe 248 yards 15th is a demanding par 3, with bunkers to right and left and trees beyond
